Nervous System - JOSEPH
JOSEPH: A message of self-reflection dressed in a massive pop song on ‘Nervous System’
JOSEPH’s "Nervous System" is a standout track for many reasons. At first listen, its pop melody may fool listeners into thinking it's just a catchy tune. However, the lyrics hold a powerful message for those struggling with anxiety. The song provides a backdrop for three sisters as they speak about their unique journeys in dealing with anxiety.
The paradox of anxiety is that when it's happening to someone else, it seems easy to find a way out. But when it's happening to you, it's difficult to imagine a time when you'll feel okay again. In these moments, the most commonly heard advice is to speak with someone. And this can be the most helpful thing to do, as speaking out loud about your thoughts can make the problem feel less scary and help you see the routes out.
However, there comes a point in the journey where you need to be self-sufficient. Relying on others or medication may provide temporary peace, but the only sustainable solution is to be present in yourself and show compassion to yourself. This can be difficult, especially with all the demands for attention in today's world, but it's not selfish to make yourself a priority. Once you learn to be self-sufficient, nothing can stop you.
It's worth noting that Nervous System is more than just a message. It's a great song, too. The sister-trio from Oregon has done a fantastic job of packaging these concepts into a sing-along anthem. Nervous System is JOSEPH’s first single since 2021 and the lead single from their upcoming album, "The Sun", set to be released in April. The title is the perfect metaphor for the track, as the sun is not only the best natural medicine for our bodies, but also the most powerful thing that finds its energy from within.
