Oxygen - Beach Bunny
2022 Review: Beach Bunny's breakout sophomore indie record Emotional Creature.
Beach Bunny is a band that has been on my radar for a while, and their sophomore album "Emotional Creature," released in July of this year, is a definite step-up from their debut "Honeymoon." This album sounds a lot crisper and continues to feel fresh to my ears no matter how many times I have it on repeat. It's definitely one of my favourite indie records of the year.
I first heard Beach Bunny when they released "Honeymoon" in February of 2020, just as the pandemic was starting to shut down live shows. Their energetic and fresh sound was exactly what I needed at the time, and it still brings me back to those early days of the pandemic. Despite the band's rapid growth in the past couple of years, the music still feels like it's made in a friend's basement and written just for me. Lili Trifilio's lyrical progression on this album is particularly impressive, and makes the songs feel instantly personal.
