Your Love - Carlos Abril
Carlos Abril: A student of guitar, a master of good energy
If you're like me, your Spotify is probably a mess. With hundreds of playlists for different moods and occasions, it can be overwhelming to keep them organized. However, this year, I've been trying to fix that. While everyone has their own way of creating playlists, I decided to keep it simple by choosing a playlist based on how my body reacts to my favorite songs. If I'm smiling, it's a ‘HAPPY’ playlist. If I'm dancing, it's a ‘DANCE’ playlist. And if I don't know what's going on, it's in a ‘CHAOTIC’ playlist.
But then, a particular playlist formed unconsciously. These were the songs that made me take a deep breath, and the rest of the world slowed down around me. Songs like "Wildfire" from Cautious Clay and "Sanctuary" from Hiss Golden Messenger. And now, a brand new artist Carlos Abril has just released his EP titled 'Flow' and listening to the music had that immediate reaction.
Carlos Abril is a Spanish artist who works with the guitar like he's just strumming away on a Sunday afternoon without a care in the world. He plays bass, electric and Spanish guitar, alongside knowing how to make beats and have a killer soulful vocal. I hear elements of Tom Misch, a bit of the Kaytranada in the bass, some of the John Mayer croon in the guitar. I even watched a cover he did of D'Angelo's "Send It On" on his Instagram and immediately heard this Daniel Caesar kinda sound.
What sets Carlos Abril apart is his ability to use his vocals as an instrument alongside the bass, electric, and Spanish guitar. His music is full of feel-good energy that fits into the ‘HAPPY’ playlist, the ‘DANCE’ playlist, but also a track where I just feel my body instinctively taking a breath, and the world slowing down.
"Your Love" is the One of One today from Carlos Abril's debut EP 'Flow'. Listening to this song, I can't recommend enough looking this guy up on Instagram. His feed is full of feel-good covers of tracks, playing music he loves. There's no reason not to have this guy's energy on your timeline. He's one of my favorite discoveries so far this year, and I can't wait to hear more from him.
